For a special occasion (birthday, Bar Mitzvah, wedding, anniversary)
Ask for donations in lieu of gifts.
Host a New Orleans-style meal in your home or at your church or school
Jambalaya, red beans and rice, boiled seafood, bread pudding… with these delicious pieces of New Orleans culture in their bellies, tell your guests about your experience with SBP and the needs in New Orleans and ask them to contribute, or charge to attend the meal.
Appeal to local businesses for in-kind donations and host a silent auction or raffle
Local artwork, jewelry, meals at restaurants, electronics such as digital cameras and iPods, and gift baskets are always hit items, but use your imagination about what your guests will like and hit the streets to meet business owners who want to help!
Host a viewing party for films about New Orleans
Show When the Levees Broke, Trouble the Water, If God is Willin’and da Creek Don’t Rise or the HBO Series Treme and ask friends, after learning about Katrina and the enduring needs, to make a contribution.
Compete in a run, walk or triathlon
Get pledges to support your effort and SBP. (You can also use firstgiving.com to track your pledges.)
Host a car wash or bake sale
Old-school fundraisers are fun and reliable ways to raise funds!
Ask your favorite restaurant or bar to donate a portion of sales, then pack the house with your friends to raise funds for SBP
Host a Saints tailgate or viewing party: The Saints unify New Orleans – unify your friends and family around getting families in New Orleans home. Ask for donations or charge to attend.
Throw a House Party
Host a party at your home in the spirit of an SBP Welcome Home party.
Host a Benefit Concert
Ask a local band or musician to donate their time to host a concert for SBP and collect the proceeds.
