Sheryl Green and Ron Leblanc had made
arrangements to leave the area before Hurricane Katrina hit. Unfortunately, their ride never came, and they were
forced to wait out the storm. Like thousands of other residents, their story is both horrifying and amazing:
after six days of prayer and living on rooftops they, along with their two dogs Foxy and Zsa Zsa,
were finally rescued. Sadly, a third dog did not make it. They were relocated to Austin, Texas,
and upon arrival taken to a nearby medical facility. After many months in Austin, Ron and Sheryl decided to return
to St. Bernard and try to rebuild their lives. They have been living in a FEMA trailer on the front lawn since
April of 2006. With the help of the St. Bernard Project and the many, many volunteers they are just weeks away from moving
back into their home. There aren’t enough words to express the gratitude of the Green/Leblanc family to all of those
who helped them on this journey, from the first group in October during Women’s Rebuild Week until the
present day.
