Lou and Margaret Church of Gaithersburg, MD wrote the following after volunteering with The St. Bernard Project:

"New Orleans is a thousand miles and a world away. We went down there not knowing what to expect; we couldn’t have anticipated what we found..." [more]

Patrick Hussey from Long Beach, NY on his experience with the St. Bernard Project:

In September of 2006 I had several weeks off from work, it just so happened that the first of those weeks fell on the same time as the one year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. [more]

More Feedback:

"I just received a glowing letter written by Coach Grubair to the basketball parents about their experience at St. Bernard Project.  I want to thank you for all your help coordinating  everything for us.  It was truly a great experience for them to work with the families there and we appreciate all that you do to make that happen.  Your work there must be difficult at times with so many details to arrange  but it must also be so rewarding to know how much you help so many people.   I just had to express my appreciation....the opportunity to be involved in your noble project in even our small way was something the boys will always remember."

God Bless,
Marty"

"We want to take this time to thank you for opening your center, homes, and hearts to the GIEU Team from the University of Michigan. Our lives will never be the same. Our time in New Orleans has been exciting, educational, and most rewarding.  We have seen much of the diversity of the city and have experienced the resilience of the people of New Orleans.  We know the best is yet to come for this city.  Many of us are now planning our return New Orleans to reacquaint ourselves with our new friends and colleagues.  Thank you for making this time so valuable to all of us.  Please let us know if there is any way we can assist you in your efforts.

Go Blue!"

"It’s been a real pleasure working with such a well organized, friendly, and motivated bunch of people. I want to come back and work with you again."

"I was surprised that we started every day with goals and expectations. This type of open communication and leadership had a positive influence on my trip."

"I just wanted to let you know how great it was to work with you and the Project volunteers.  You guys are doing a great job of not only helping the residents but helping the volunteer worker bees get connected and feel valued."

"One of the things that all of us found so intriguing was how much the locals expressed their gratitude to us for coming and volunteering to help to rebuild their area.  All of the locals were wonderful to us, and could not thank us enough for being there."

"I wish I could have stayed longer."

"I learned that every person experienced loss in a different way. Stories, emotions, perceptions of loss and rebuilding were very personal and individual."

"I wish I had more time."

"Such a great time with you guys, will be back to build again.  Thanks!!!!!!!!"

"If it wasn't for you guys I wouldn't have created the most amazing memories that I did my week helping out. I didn't want to leave. I'll be back next year!"

"Life changing experience for me working in the Parish. Who'd a thought 'muddin' could have such an effect? Zack and Liz, you rock. I'm coming back, and back, and back..."

"Inspired in ways I will never be able to put into words..."

"Thank you for all your help in being a true vessel of awareness."

"I just got back home to Rochester, New York after a week in St. Bernard Parish at Camp Hope working on the houses through St. Bernard Project and I have to say that I will never forget the people of St. Bernard and all the wonderful work everyone at the project is doing. Our group will definitely be back next year, thanks for everything!"

"We were only signed up to work for three days, but at  the end of the third day we found it impossible not to come back. There was an instant bond with both the house we were working on and with the people of your organization and we still wish we could have had even more time.  We grew very attached to Henry's house and really wanted to make as much progress as possible in the time that we were there. The satisfaction at the end of each day, knowing that Henry and his family were now that much closer to reclaiming their home, was immeasurable. Kind of a tough thing to walk away from, you know? We really can't single out any one aspect of the experience that was the best part.  Honestly, the entire time we were there was the best part and we cannot wait until we are able to come back. I'd have to say that the greatest thing we learned through our experience was just knowing that you guys are down there.  To know that the people of St. Bernard Parish have such a tremendous resource as the St. Bernard Project to reach out to, is truly inspirational. It was absolutely our honor to be part of your team, if just for a short time."
