We recently commemorated the fourth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina’s landfall on the Gulf Coast. August 29th was a day of reflection, recalling how quickly a region changed and altered the course of thousands of lives. But it was also a day of looking forward—a day of hope, determination and confidence that we can solve the housing problems in the New Orleans area.

We ask you to join us and to continue remembering this day by becoming part of the St. Bernard Project’s national campaign—4 NOLA. Officially launched on the fourth anniversary and continuing through the next year, 4 NOLA is a fundraising and awareness campaign for people who, four years after Katrina, are still 4 New Orleans. We have a host of ways for you to get involved in New Orleans or in your own hometown. Click on one of the headings below for more information about the aspects of 4 NOLA.

4 NOLA fundraisers

  • We are aiming to have 100 fundraisers around North America in the next year to support the St. Bernard Project, 15 of which have already been scheduled or occurred.
  • Get involved with an event in your own town to help move families back home.

4 NOLA videos

  • Are you 4 NOLA? Prove it by shooting a 30-second clip about why you support this area.
  • Add it to YouTube, and we’ll post the best ones on our site.

4 NOLA 24-hour build

  • To demonstrate our commitment to rebuilding and to commemorate Katrina, 115 volunteers from across the country worked more than 220 hours in participation of our 24-hour build.

4 NOLA anniversary kickoff

  • More than 300 individuals joined us at House of Blues in New Orleans on Aug. 29 to celebrate how far we have come. Thanks to our many supporters, we raised more than $50,000 at the 4 NOLA kickoff events and at fundraisers held around the country. The amount raised will allow us to help three additional families move home. We are only $10,000 short of our goal, which will allow a fourth family to move home.

4 NOLA chef events

  • We are asking chefs across the country to set aside an evening 4 NOLA.
  • We aim to raise funds by having their restaurants donate a portion of their proceeds to St. Bernard Project.

4 NOLA bands

  • Bands across the country are encouraged to be 4 NOLA by holding private meet and greets before concerts that raise money for St. Bernard Project.
  • We are also seeking social networking help by asking bands to use Facebook, Twitter or other media to get the word out about us.
