St. Bernard Project is looking for highly motivated military veterans who are ready to devote their energy to restoring our community. Members will play a vital role in rebuilding our clients’ homes and in fostering a more veteran-friendly environment within the larger community. These opportunities are available in New Orleans and in Joplin, MO with SBP’s affiliate Rebuild Joplin.
Veterans in the program work alongside SBP’s 60+ AmeriCorps members and 200+ daily volunteers in every phase of construction. They serve SBP’s clients for 5 or 10 months while also connecting to available veteran resources and benefits. Veteran Corps assists with the transition to civilian life.
“Something that works well for VetCorps is that you ask people that are committed
to a mission of national defense to then be committed to a mission of community service.
I feel like it’s been easy to transition from one to the other.”
– Reese May, SBP staffer and former VetCorps member
St. Bernard Project’s VetCorps members serve in many facets of our operations–in both field work and office positions. These positions include site supervisors, carpenters, electricians and warehouse managers, as well as client services managers and volunteer coordinator. Construction experience is not required–only a sincere desire to serve the community while learning the skill sets necessary to succeed.
In exchange for their service, Veterans Corps members will receive a living stipend of $1,210 per month and an education award of $5,500 upon completion of their service term. SBP will also assist with job networking and placement.
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
